The Work

This rock comes from Whakatiwai in Hauraki on the shores of Tikapa Moana (Hauraki Gulf).

Whakatiwai was a home of Marutūāhu and his father Hotunui.

It was from Whakatiwai that the Marutūāhu tribes expanded to become, along with other tribes. tāngata whenua of different regions including Haraki, Auckland and Mahurangi.
